11th World Scout Youth Forum - SPONSORSHIP

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings from the World Scout Bureau in Manila!

As you would recall, the 11th World Scout Youth Forum will be held from 3 - 6 January 2011 in Viena Park Hotel, Blumenau, Brazil. The World Scout Youth Forum provides an opportunity for young members of World Scouting to discuss and express their views on issues of interest to them. Through preparing inputs and making recommendations to the World Conference and to the World Scout Committee, to which the Forum is linked, participants will develop the skills necessary to strengthen their capacity to take part in decision-making processes.

In order to achieve this, the Regional Office will utilize the balance funds from the 2007 Operation One World so that ONE Scout from the least developed countries in the Asia-Pacific region can attend both the Youth Forum and the World Scout Conference in Brazil.

In this connection, we are looking for ONE [1] Scout who can represent his/her NSO and the Asia-Pacific Region to this event. The selected participant will be provided with a return airticket to Brazil. The young person should fit the following profile:

1. Must be aged between 18 and 26 years old both Male and Female (born between 1 January 1985 and 31 December 1993).

2. Must attend the 11th World Scout Youth Forum as delegate and must also be able to join the 39th World Scout Conference after the Youth Forum. Therefore, he/she must be able to stay in Brazil from 2 - 14 January 2011.

3. Scouts who definitely CANNOT afford to attend the event by their own means and selected on fair and open process, by written application and after interview by a panel.

4. Should posses the qualities listed below:

- Experience in decision making at the institutional level within their National Scout Association and/or at Sub-National level,

- Knowledge of current issues under consideration at World level of the World Organization of the Scout Movement,

- Some experience in or knowledge of conference participation, development techniques of recommendations, and decision-making processes,

- Some experience in representation of young people, and

- Relevant experiences to contribute to the programme aspects of the World Scout Youth Forum.

If you agree to accept this invitation and be willing to nominate a participant, please follow the conditions and timeline:

1. Confirm the intention to participate together with the airfare quotation in USD from the travel agency latest by 30 July 2010.

Please note that to avoid visa complications, try to find an itinerary that will not transit United States of America. We recommend that you get an itinerary transiting Dubai or Doha to Sau Paulo, Brazil then to Curitiba, Brazil.

2. Be willing to bear the registration fee for the Youth Forum and Conference and accommodation cost during the conference on a twin sharing basis from 9 - 14 January 2010 for 6 nights. This total cost will be more or less USD800.00.

3. Send the completed Reply Slip B (attach) not later than 30 August 2010. Please note that the attached Reply Slip B is ONLY for the purpose of the selection of the sponsored Scout and NOT the official rely slip for the Youth Forum or the World Scout Conference.

4. Register the candidate both for the Youth Forum and World Conference not later than 1 November 2010 to avail the early bird rate concession.

A team of 2-3 members from the APR Programme Sub-Committee will select the participant for this sponsorship based on merit from among the applications received from NSOs. The selected participant will be announced by 15 September 2010.

Therefore, your urgent and positive response would be much appreciated.

Looking forward to receiving your nominations.

Thank you and best regards.
